You may not be aware of this, but bee numbers in Britain have fallen dramatically in recent years and two bumblebee species are already extinct. There are many factors causing the bees’ decline – from habitat loss, to disease, climate change, and there’s also growing evidence that some pesticides currently used harm bees. This is why The Melvita Foundation is supporting Friend’s of the Earth’s Bee Cause to safeguard the future of bees.
Bees are essential to our food supply, economy and quality of life: Bees pollinate 75% of our most vital crops and favourite foods. Without bees and other insects we’d also have 20% less vitamin C, 41% less vitamin A and 9% less calcium-Without bees it would cost UK farmers £1.8 billion a year to pollinate our crops. That’s more than it costs farmers to produce all the milk consumed in the UK every year. They’re essential to our gardens, parks and countryside. Bees and other insects help pollinate over 75% of our plants, which in turn are vital to our insects, birds and animals.
To support this cause, Melvita is launching the Melvita Friends of the Earth Wild Flower Bee Set, which includes a tub of Apicosma Skin Softening Body Milk, a hexagonal honey mini soap, a gorgeous Bee Cause tea towel and a cute notepad with bees on it presented in a lovely tote bag. This will make a wonderful gift (or treat to yourself!) and 10% of all costs are going to the cause.
I tried the Melvita Apicosma Body milk, which is probably one of the silkiest lotions you could ever try, as it’s formulated with Melvita’s patented 3-Honey-Complex. It also contains macadamia oil and chestnut extract, both of which are very nourishing and ideal for dry skin. Flower pollen helps strengthen the epidermis and also smells beautifully sweet (you might find yourself smelling your hands after use!). And you can use it daily, in fact as often as you want – as it’s soft and smooth and will hydrate your skin however dry or delicate.
The Melvita Apicosma Body Milk is priced at £17.50. The Melvita Friends of the Earth Wild Flower Bee Set is available in-store now. For more information go to uk.melvita.com. To find out more about the campaign go to foe.co.uk.
