Heavenly Body Lotions

Hot weather can really dry out your skin, so it’s extra important to pay attention to it during the summer months. Although this year hasn’t really felt like summer much in my corner of the world, except for the glorious heat wave we had, I still like to experiment with nourishing body lotions to keep my skin in good condition. Here are a few of my favourites, which I hope you’re going to love too…

beautyspotblogFrom the delicious and quirky Soap & Glory range, with its retro and witty packaging comes a rather special body butter. As it says on its fun packaging, you might swear you’re wearing velvet! Smooth and intense, with softening shea butter and moisturizing aloe vera as well as cocoa seed butter, coconut oil and rosa moscheta seed oil, it’s super creamy but not too rich. Of fast absorption, non-greasy and reminiscent of the Miss Dior Chérie fragrance, this body cream is divine. The fragrance includes bergamot, mandarin and musk, with floral, fruity and woody notes. Soap & Glory The Righteous Butter comes in a 300ml container and in a mini handbag-size too – all their packaging is lovely.

For more information go to www.soapandglory.comTHE RIGHTEOUS BUTTER™ MINI is priced at £2.50.

beautyspotblogDHC OLIVE body butter is also very nourishing for your skin, with a delicate scent. It seals in moisture from top to toe, enveloping your skin in a rich veil of hydration. It contains cocoa and shea butters, as well as emollient oils: olive oil, coconut oil, avocado oil, aqualane and argan oil. Your skin will feel soft and silky, with a non-greasy after-feel. It comes in very pretty and delicate circular packaging, with a dynamic and lively green apple and rose scent – so uplifting even on a grey day!

beautyspotblog3Another vintage find that you’ll love and that will make a great gift for that girlfriend who adores all things vintage is the Betty Hula Champagne and Spice moisturizing cream with shea butter. Made with natural ingredients and featuring a luxurious, unusual fragrance, this product is creamy yet light, and gets absorbed immediately, leaving a decadent scent behind. This product also comes in Rum & Blackcurrant, in quirky and pretty 120 ml containers, with a hand-crafted look that will look fabulous in any bathroom.

5 reasons to LOVE this lip balm

laiafarrangravesLips often get forgotten when it comes to moisturising. I apply cream on my face daily, but I don’t moisturise my lips unless they feel sore or I can see it’s a windy day outside. And I don’t wear make up every day – I’m a great believer in looking after your skin and in the principle that less is more – so they don’t get moisturised by wearing lipstick. However, when I came across this coloured lip balm I was converted. Jane Iredale’s Lipdrink SPF15 Lip Balm is a real find. It’s a very soft lip balm, which I tried in a brand new beautiful shade called Flirt that is subtle enough to look completely natural. It protects from the sun, intensely hydrates and adds a hint of colour to your lips. It also comes in a berry shade called Crush, a brown shade called Buff and as a lip balm with no colour, just a bit of sheen, called Sheer. So here is why I think you will love Jane Iredale’s Lipdrink:

  1. The colour: it’s soft and subtle and looks completely natural, just your lips on a better day
  2. The scent: as you apply it you will smell the uplifting scent of the zest of a lemon being crushed into your lips
  3. The fact that this product is completely cruelty free, vegan and gluten free – so it’s a little stick of goodness
  4. The ingredients: natural oils including avocado, carrot seed and lemon peel to name but a few
  5. The texture: it’s so intensely moisturising that it literally glides on and protects you from the sun for softer, more kissable lips.

Need I say any more?

Relax…it’s only Christmas!

beautyspotThis time of year is filled with social occasions and a busy calendar for us all, so make sure you block out some precious me-time and schedule in some quiet relaxation and replenishing time for yourself. Christmas can be stressful and filled with high expectations, so why not treat yourself in the form of some time out from your busy week and a few simple beauty rituals? A candle-lit bath and a clay mask should leave you feeling relaxed yet invigorated and fresh, ready for the next round of social events!

Neom Organics make my favourite candles, and they have a special limited edition candle as part of their dreamy Christmas selection: Christmas Wish and Perfect Peace (£49.95). Neom have created their 100% natural Neom Christmas Wish™ fragrance, part of their therapeutic Neom Scent To Instantly De-Stress™ range. It includes thirteen pure essential oils, amongst them mandarin, cinnamon and tonka bean. The candle comes in two different sizes, with one and three wicks. They’re long-lasting and work even in large spaces. The scent evokes all the traditions of the Christmas period and helps reduce stress levels, too – and, this year, it’s sprinkled with 18 ct gold, to add even more luxury to the experience! You can also go for Neom Perfect Peace™ , a fragrance that is part of their therapeutic Neom Scent To Make You Happy™ range. It includes twenty-five essential oils including pine, myrrh and lime peel, blended to lift your mood, and helps with anxiety and stress, giving you a sense of calm – plus this year it comes sprinkled with real platinum, for added glamour. Another option is Neom Perfect Peace™ , also part of the therapeutic Neom Scent To Make You Happy™ range. It includes twenty-five essential oils including pine, myrrh and lime peel, blended to lift your mood, and helps with anxiety and stress, giving you a sense of calm – plus this year it comes sprinkled with real platinum, for added glamour.

laiafarrangraves.pngAfter choosing your scent, it’s time to run your bath. I have found some incredible bath salts called Rosemary & Ginger Body Soak (£12.75). This is great for soothing tired muscles, aches and pains. The scent packs a punch and is delicious yet strong; it’s handmade in the UK with pure ingredients – you will find nothing artificial in this attractive aluminium canister, and it’s suitable for every skin type. This aromatic mixture will ease any muscle stiffness or aches: the Epsom salts offer trace elements and help get rid of toxins; the ginger and galbanum relax and warm the muscles. Wintergreen is good for joints, lavender peps you up and calms, and rosemary revitalizes.

beautyspotFinally, for a great face mask. I recommend ARGAN+ LIFT & RENEW CLAY MASK (£8.95) from the ARGAN 5 – ARGAN PLUS PRODUCTS range. It contains an astonishing amount of natural oils – baobab oil, kukui oil, moringa oil and sacha inchi oil, as well as the revitalizing passionflower oil, which is rich in vitamin C and essential fatty acids. There is also shea butter to replenish, moisturize and soften, green clay and kaolin to draw out impurities and, of course, precious Moroccan argan oil. I use this mask once a week. Apply it to clean, dry skin, and rinse off thoroughly with lukewarm water. Your skin will emerge fresh, rested, renewed and nourished, with added elasticity. Fine lines are visibly diminished and your face will feel smooth, clean and soft… you’ll be ready for a beautiful Christmas. So make sure you take some time out to beautify yourself, take a deep breath and enjoy!

Full blast volume

LaiafarrangravesNow that summer is most definitely over, your hair may need a little extra pampering – it may have suffered a little more than usual and be in need of a bit of extra TLC after too much sun, chlorine and salt. If your hair is also fine and coloured, all those elements add up to a recipe for disaster. But don’t despair – I have the perfect remedy! If you’re looking for a little extra “oomph” in your hair, but with no heaviness or overpowering fragrances, I found this delightful hair mask. I used it when my hair was not only coloured, but also sun-damaged and in desperate need of a trim – it did the trick and saw me through a challenging time, hair-wise. Pure Volume Masque is a delicious and light – yet wonderfully creamy – preparation that you smooth onto your hair and leave to work its magic after shampooing. It’s a gentle and lightweight treatment for fine hair that adds moisture and nourishes deeply. The result is silky smooth but without weighing your hair down. Vitamin B5 adds volume and vitality, and results are long lasting. Their special Colour Guard Complex protects hair and reduces the loss of colour which comes with washing, heat styling, UV rays and free radicals. It’s produced by Maria Nila in Sweden with 100% vegan ingredients and is sulphate and paraben free. Plus, it smells absolutely divine! You’ll walk around surrounded by a gentle tropical garden scent to ease you gently into autumn.

The Maria Nila Pure Volume Mask is priced at EUR 27. For more information go to

Hair rescue

laiafarrangravesDespite always using great hair shampoo and conditioner, my hair feels pretty dry at the moment, so I decided to have a trim and to  purchase a hair mask. This Intensive Mask from label.m is designed to combat just that: dry and dehydrated hair and it’s very easy to use because it’s light and you only need to leave it on for three minutes (and it smells delicious!). It also has an exclusive formula called Hydra-5 moisture-regulating complex, which works on your hair to prevent further damage by replacing lost moisture, and strengthening the follicles from within – leaving it stronger and shinier than ever before; in addition to which it shields the hair against heat styling and UV rays, so it’s a bit of an all-rounder! After using, it my hair feels markedly softer and silkier and it untangles effortlessly, which is not always the case!. Its key ingredients are Bran, Cottonseeds, Shea Butter and Amazon Cupuau – a particularly restorative component that boosts the hair’s recovery to attain maximum moisture and elasticity, avoiding breakage and split ends; it’s also Sulphate free, Sodium Chloride free, so completely safe to use.

To use: Apply to wet hair and massage from roots to ends to distribute product evenly. Leave in for 3 minutes and rinse thoroughly with warm water. Apply 1-2 times a week for optimum results.

label.m‘s Intensive mask is priced at £13.75 and is available online and in all label.m concept salons, TONI&GUY and essensuals salons. For more information go to

laiafarranThis week I’ve fallen in love with a range of products  for babies from Burt’s Bees called Baby Bee. The buttermilk soap, in particular, is totally addictive and will have you thinking up reasons to go and wash your hands or indeed your baby’s hands…It contains buttermilk, rich in emollients and natural fats which are ideal for sensitive and delicate skin, and oat flour – another great skin soother. It smells absolutely delicious: delicate, soft and sweet without being at all overpowering and feels particularly soft when you apply it on the skin. It’s designed for and loved by babies because of its smooth and gentle texture, but I’m actually sold on it myself…Also particularly delicious in the range is Burt’s Bees Baby Bee’s beautyspotblogShampoo and Wash, because we all love a multi-tasker, especially when we become mums and life becomes a bit of a juggling act! It’s a great product, gentle enough to use every day (it’s tear free and non irritating) and I love that it cleans both hair and body saving you the hassle of needing two products. Its formula includes sweet orange, lemon and coconut oils to create a nourishing and effective cleanser, but more importantly doesn’t contain phthalates, parabens, petrolatum, or SLS. It bubbles generously and leaves skin and hair soft, so much so that I’ve stopped using a conditioner too. If you’re looking for a gift for a new mum or you have children yourself this is a great range that ticks all the boxes: from the beautiful packaging to the subtle fragrance and texture, to the fact that the products are made with a lot of love, natural products and no nasties at all. All in all a winner range that I (and more importantly my much harder to please baby daughter) would thoroughly recommend.

For more information go to Baby Bee Shampoo and Wash is priced at £7.99, and the Buttermilk Baby Soap is priced at £4.99.

beautyspotblogIf you love the smell of Baby Johnson’s baby products (let’s face it, who doesn’t?!) you’ll love this brand new fragrance from The Library of Fragrance. It’s called Baby Powder and it smells just like baby talcum powder. Of course, once you apply this Eau de Toilette on your skin, some of the top notes evaporate and it adapts to you, it might change a little, but that trusting, just-come-out-of-the-bath scent is definitely in the air: it’s a clean and comforting smell that will take you back (possibly) to your very own childhood. It’s light and fresh and great for the summer as it’s clean and breezy. The fragrance is priced at £15.00 for a 30ml. bottle and is available on their website and Boots (online and stores nationwide}. They have some great scents like Play-doh (another memory lane classic!), Sunshine and Grass. Check them out if you’re after some delicious new colognes!

Advancing scientific research is showing us that scent is processed deep within a part of our brains that also manages emotion and memories. It’s not likely that many of us have tangible memories of being a baby, but it’s very likely that the scent of our Baby Powder fragrance subliminally takes us right back to feeling soothed, cradled and cared for. And who doesn’t want to feel like that at least some of the time?

Eau de Korres

laiafarrangravesbeautyspotblogThis is an Eau de Toilette with a twist. It combines three most unusual ingredients: Vanilla, Freesia and Lychee to create a seductive and earthy floral scent. It’s the latest addition to the fragrance collection of Greek cult brand KORRES, a collection which is free of synthetic non-biodegradable compounds that are widely used as fragrance fixatives and are known to cause irritations and bioaccumulation; instead they have developed a formula preserved with rosemary, a natural food-grade antioxidant.
It’s a beautiful EDT, which could almost be classed as unisex as it’s floral but not overly sweet and has Patchouli and Musk in the mix that give it that extra oomph. As it settles onto your skin the base notes take centre stage and you’re left with a hint vanilla mixed in with elegant and seductive Oriental notes. I would personally wear this fragrance in the evening as it definitely makes a statement, but it’s not too strong to enjoy in the day too. The packaging is also exquisite, simple and timeless so it would make a great gift. All in all a great investment.

Available from 50mL/ 1.69 Fl.Oz. RRP: £30.00 (€36.00).

Perfume Paradise

laiafarrangraves_beautyspotI’m a big fan of Yardley London‘s fragrances, I love their timeless, classic elegance, and the latest fragrance, Polaire is as quintessentially Yardley as the rest of them. It’s named after the French 1920s silent film actress, and it encapsulates the glamour and female empowerment of the Roaring Twenties.  The scent is a floral Chypre (a perfume that is composed of citrus top-notes, a floral middle  and a mossy-animalic base-note), which were very popular at that time. The nose behind this fragrance is Juliette Karagueuzoglou, and it opens with top notes of green, pear and freesia, follows with a spicy floral heart of rose, and as a base it includes sensual patchouli and amber. In keeping with the overall theme, the bottle has a beautiful Art Deco design the hints at vintage and would look stunning on any dressing table or bathroom counter. When I first tried it on, it felt a bit on the strong side, but once the perfume had settled I was left with a delicate fruity floral scent that I really enjoyed (and got a few inquiries too!). It’s the sort of Eau de Toilette that can be carried through from daytime to evening and is sweet enough to make an impression but isn’t too overpowering. It’s feminine, chic and sensual and would suit any age because of its ingredient combination. If you’re looking for a new fragrance check this one out…it may just be the one!

Polaire Eau de Toilette 50ml is priced at £19.99, and is available at Boots, Lloyds, Morrisons, Sainsburys, independent chemists and online at

I heart rose oil

laiafarrangraves_beautyspotFew scents are as stunning and delicate as Rose Oil, and its benefits – both therapeutic and anti-ageing – are just as impressive. I love to use beauty products that contain rose (and so does my boyfriend!), and this week I discovered a wonderful night oil called Living Nature Radiance Night Oil, from New Zealand brand Living Nature, that is really worth writing about. Its main ingredient is rosehip oil, which helps to restore youthful skin vitality and has a dramatic effect assisting cell renewal (it’s scientifically proven to stimulate structural skin cells up to 43 percent in 72 hours to increase the production of collagen and elastin) and it also contains essential rose oil (65,000 perfect rosebuds are distilled to create just 1ml of Radiance Night Oil to be precise!). And because of the rose oil, this luxurious anti-ageing serum, not only aids your skin’s healing properties but will also help you sleep better. It contains Rose Petals as well as Calendula, Jojoba, Rosehip, Frankincense, and the powerful antioxidants Vitamins A and E, to help rejuvenate your skin while you sleep. Lightweight and easily absorbed, you only need to use a few drops each night to achieve a healthier-looking and more radiant complexion.

Rose Oil, the essential oil extracted from one of the world’s most beautiful flowers, also provides important beautifying effects on the skin.  A special combination of over 300 nutrients, Rose Oil provides powerful therapeutic and anti-ageing benefits to our skin, helping to stimulate collagen production and increase elastin levels for skin that feels firmer and looks younger.

Living Nature’s Radiance Night Oil contains no genetically modified ingredients, only botanicals that are sourced from sustainable sources and is not tested on animals. Radiance Night Oil retails at £48 for 10ml. For more information go to
