Want some sheer tint? We’ve got it covered

laiafarrangravesIf you’re after a daily moisturiser with sun protection and a hint of colour, look no further. The Sheer Tint from Dermalogica is a great light moisturiser that will smooth out your skin and hydrate it whilst adding a hint of colour to it. It’s ideal all year round because it gives you a healthy glow and protects your skin from harmful UVA and UVB sun rays and it’s easy to apply – just once a day after cleansing your skin. You can use it alone as your daily moisturiser or, if like me you need an extra hydration boost, you can use it over a serum or a rich day cream. The colour is translucent enough to provide a radiant glow without looking like you’re wearing make up, giving you a natural, healthy glow. It contains hydrating Hyaluronic Acid and antioxidant Walnut Seed extracts help improve
the skin’s texture and reduce the appearance of fine dehydration lines. It also has an SPF of 20, which is great to provide your complexion with that extra protection from damaging sun rays all year round (and not just when you’re on holiday!). It comes in three shades, light, medium and dark. I tried the medium and it worked well, once I mixed it in with daily moisturiser. I also tried it as a blush, applying just a little on the cheek area and it looked great, so like any good quality product it’s a bit of a multi-tasker. The shades are very adaptable and subtle too, so one shade will accommodate a number of skin tones. As always, it’s formulated without artificial fragrances and colours – well, we wouldn’t expect anything less from Dermalogica! A good, staple investment if your skin need a pick-me up…

For more information go to www.dermalogica.co.uk. Dermalogica’s Sheer Tint spf20 is priced at £34.80.

If you can’t stand the heat…

laiafarrangravesIt seems to be a good time of year to review sun creams as this UK heatwave is in full swing!

I came across the new Organii Everyday Organics Sun Milk 50 at my local health food store a few months ago and couldn’t resist buying it…I’ve been using it all summer and it has become another favourite of mine, especially when it comes to children, because you know their preciously delicate skin is completely protected from the sun’s harmful UVA AND UVB sun rays. As a friend said to me in the park as I was applying it to my toddler from head to toe: ‘These wholesome organic sun creams leave you child looking like they’re ready to swim the channel’ 🙂
This organic mineral sun cream is vegan (another reason I like it) and fragrance free and it’s very easy to apply because of its fluid consistency – it’s not runny but it’s not a thick cream either. And it works on all skin types, so it’s ideal for the whole family. Its formulation includes extracts of jojoba, olive, sunflower and argan oils to nourish and moisturise the skin while naturally shielding you from the sun. Because of its high protection, it’s ideal for those with fair skin or those who burn quickly too: all in all a wonderfully wholesome Sun Milk you can trust and enjoy during the hottest of summer days.

Go green!

beautyspotblogJuicing is great for your overall health, and absolutely delicious but if you have no time to juice and fancy an instant pick-me-up, Nature’s Plus’ Source of Life Green Lightning, could be the answer to all your prayers. It’s a supplement you can mix with coconut water, fruit juice or add to a smoothie to create a perfect blend. Wondering what’s in it? A complex of essential vitamins and minerals, amino acids, enzymes, phytonutrients and antioxidants that contains power-packed superfoods and oceanic algae – such as  young barley plants, whole brown rice, spirulina, chlorella (a supplement which has a celebrity fan base, including Rosie Huntington-Whiteley and Miranda Kerr) and Pacific kelp. It will give you tons of energy and keep your body and skin in tip-top condition. I personally like to mix it with apple juice and ice as the sweetness takes over the flavour, making it a very enjoyable and refreshing drink –  ideal for the more dynamic summer months ahead. So go green and start beautifying yourself form the inside out 🙂

Face lift in a bottle: Editor’s choice

beautyspotblogI love having facials, they’re relaxing, pampering and – of course – wonderful for your skin. But even if sometimes you don’t have the time or the money to have a facial on a regular basis, with so many amazing products out there, you really can still get the benefits of using high end treatments in the comfort of your own home. One such product is the brainchild of Environ‘s Dr Fernandes, who wanted to develop a product that literally was like a “face lift in a bottle”. The Revival Masque has been extensively trialled for over 4 years with a 99% satisfaction rate and is a unique combination of 3 acids (Asiatic Acid, Lactic Acid, Mandelic Acid), working together to trigger the release of growth factors from the keratinocyte cells. This product will lighten pigmentation marks, reduce lines and wrinkles making skin tighter, smoother, more radiant and younger looking. But it’s not a one-time-wonder, it’s a product you need to commit to. To use it you need to increase its applications gradually and, for instance the first week you can have two 10 minute applications in the evening, leaving it on the skin and then removing with tepid water. In week two, you can use it two to three times per week, in week three you can use it three to five times per week for 20 minutes, and in week four you can try using it five times a week overnight. The cream smells beautiful, good enough to eat – even though it’s a very subtle scent. And it feels rich and soft at the same time. I absolutely love the brand and this product doesn’t disappoint. It took me a while to get started on the routine as it’s something you need to plan and stick to, but once on the regime it’s a great product which really does give your skin a boost. And the packaging is also super-cool – let’s just say it’s taken prime position in my bathroom shelf…

Environ’s Revival Mask is priced at £49 for 50ml.  Once opened, use for four to six months for maximum benefits. Recommended to be used during winter months, but may be used all year round provided a broad spectrum sunscreen is applied daily. For more information go to iiaa.eu.

Super healthy, gorgeous lips

beautyspot2

Have you ever wondered what you put on your lips? I mean what you actually put on your lips? Well, it got me thinking and I came across Lippy Girl Vegocentrics, a premium line of amazing lipsticks made only with organic and wildcrafted, natural oils and waxes and natural mineral pigments.  They’re 100% vegan, bee-free, gluten free and chemical free. I tried their shade called Ski Bunny, which (like the rest of the range) contains certified organic Castor Seed Oil, Jojoba seed oil, Carnauba Wax, and Shea Butter making it very creamy and soft. In fact just like any other lipstick only better for you and for the environment.  It’s a lovely pale natural shade that has a hint of Sixties about it, and would be ideal for a bride.  beautyspot3The lipsticks come in 12 different shades including a great red called Boss Lady and a coral shade called Me Maybe and they retail at £12.50. They’re a great investment not only in your beauty regime but in your ‘bit for the planet’. Take a look and see for yourself.

Sun shield

beautyspotblogAs you know, one of the main contributors to premature skin ageing is exposure to the sun, so wearing sun cream or make up with an SPF is an absolute must if you want to look great at every age. But like with everything in life, there’s sun protection and there’s sun protection, which is why I want to tell you about a label which has just launched in the UK. It’s a range of products called Ladival and which is pretty revolutionary in its approach to sun protection because as well as blocking your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays it also blocks it from Infrared-A light, which effectively translates into having 4 times more sun protection than your average sun cream.

37% of the sun’s rays are damaging to the skin. Current sun screens that you know and buy, only protect against UVA and UVB. That means they only protect you against 7% of those rays. By protecting against Infrared-A as well, Ladival offers protection against four times more of the sun’s damaging rays.

The range includes lotions and sprays at SPFs 15, 30 and 50, as well as a children’s range. The products are free from perfume, colourants, preservatives and emulsifiers and suitable for sensitive skin (including eczema, and sun allergy and prickly heat sufferers). I tried the 15SPF lotion for every day use on my face and loved its ‘barely-there’ texture and the slight sheen it gives the skin. Next time you plan a holiday in the sun add Ladival to your checklist, you won’t regret it!

The Ladival range is available at £19.99 and is available at Boots and leading supermarkets nationwide. For more information go to Ladival.co.uk.

Sleeping Beauty: Give your skin a boost

laiafarrangraves

Just in time for Christmas, I’ve discovered a brand new product which is  fast-becoming my latest luxury indulgence. It’s called Sleeping Beauty from Skin Design London and it’s a mask you apply as a night treatment.  I love the idea of it working away overnight while I’m off duty so to speak, as it’s a perfect opportunity to boost the skin. Sleeping Beauty is a yeast derived plant-based collagen treatment mask, which you apply and leave overnight but can also use in the daytime and leave for 15 minutes. It also contains avocado and rosehip oils to restore hydration, nourishing Vitamins E and C to enhance elasticity and antioxidants from white, red and green teas blended with acai berries to help fight visible signs of ageing.

The packaging is beautiful and luxurious, and the cream itself is light, slightly fragranced and quickly absorbed. It feels like a treat and the skin responds by feeling plump and hydrated. I’ve only used it a handful of times, but already feel it gives me an extra boost, especially when my skin is dry from the cold weather outside and the central heating indoors. It’s definitely a luxury item, but a little goes a long way so write this one up on your Christmas list and hope someone takes the hint!

About the brand…”Driven by our success and passion, we have created SkinDesignLondon,  a personalised and professional “SKIN CLINIC IN A BOTTLE”.  A designer collection of skincare products filled with treatment based ingredients using cutting edge technology and high yield actives.  Our mission is to improve the health of your skin by delivering immediate results and giving you optimum SKIN HEALTH.”

Available at Skindesignlondon.com, priced at £85.00 50ml.

Timeless classic – celeb favourite revealed

laiafarrangravesWhen it comes to skincare, I’m always interested in the latest technology and developments, as well as in natural products that use nature’s wisdom to excel. Every so often, however, I come across products that are worth writing home about, even if they don’t fit my usual bill. I recently read about Astral and thought I’d give it a go. I’d seen make-up artists use it on sets – particularly on legs and arms to give the models’ skin that glow it requires before being snapped – but I’d never actually tried it on myself. It’s a real iconic classic that ‘does what it says on the tin’ (since it was created in the 1950s, its formula has remained unchanged) and it works for all ages. It’s a thick all-over moisturiser, which smells reassuringly clean, that does what it claims to: moisturise and hydrate. You can use it as a face cream, cleanser, as a mask, as a moisturiser, as a night cream, make-up remover, to give your legs a shine for your Christmas party, to soothe cracked heals, even as an after-sun lotion. It has a massive celebrity following including Joanna Lumley, Patsy Kensit, Jesy Nelson from Little Mix, Nikki Sanderson from Hollyoaks, Emma Thompson, Kate Beckinsale, Shingai Shoniwa from the Noisettes and Sam Faiers from TOWIE. It’s an ideal product to take to the gym, to the pool or to carry in your handbag just in case, also – of course – it could become invaluable when travelling and you need a faithful, tried-and-tested multi-tasker with you. I could see it becoming a part of the family…

Sam Faiers from The Only Way Is Essex says: “I use Astral Moisturiser. I apply it all over my face if I’ve had quite a heavy weekend and when I wake up in the morning my skin feels really hydrated.”

Joanna Lumley says: “I’m thrilled to try all sorts of face firmers and wrinkle-reduction creams, but the one I always come back to is plain, simple Astral cream. I’ve used it for over 35 years and it just works for me. I also use lashings of Astral moisturiser to take off make-up. I travel everywhere with a little pot of Astral in my bag.”

Astral is available at Superdrug and other reputable chemists and is priced at £1.52 per 50ml, £4.28 per 200ml and £8.16 per 500ml.

The Snail Trail: latest celeb wonder must-have

First was bee pollen, then was snake venom and now the latest must-have in the beauty industry is snail gel. While I find the idea a little bit “icky” the more I read about it the more it makes sense, but the proof is in the pudding so I decided to try out the Dr organic Snail Gel Moisture Mask to see what all the fuss was about…

laiafarrangraves beautyspotI put the mask on my face and it smells of fresh lemongrass, its texture is almost foamy and creamy and as soon as I apply it, the product begins to soak into my skin. It’s such a pleasant product in smell and texture that by now I’ve completely forgotten it contains Helix Aspersa Muller (aka snail slime). After 10 minutes I remove it with warm water and check out my skin inspecting it closely: it feels clean,  hydrated and somewhat dewy and the lemon smell is uplifting so I feel good. Like with all Dr Organic products the quality is excellent: it’s a brand I trust and that is good value for money. So, having tried it, I think this mask (and the range of products available in it –hand gel, face anti-ageing serum, face cream) will work wonders if your skin is a bit dehydrated and in need of that extra boost – so a great anti-ageing or plumping product.

laiafarrangraves

Both Ashley Roberts and Katie Holmes have said they use snail beauty products, and as it gains popularity its following is fast growing. So how was the connection made between snails and beauty products? you might ask yourself…Well, it turns out that snail farmers in Chile exporting to the French food industry saw that their hands didn’t scar when handling the slimy animals so they put two and two together. And if you are worried about the snails, no harm comes to them in the process of secreting their wonder-slime, so these products are animal friendly 🙂

So there you have it, an interesting and original product you might want to try. The Dr Organic Snail Moisture Mask is available at Hollandandbarret.com, priced at £1.99.
