It seems to be a good time of year to review sun creams as this UK heatwave is in full swing!
I came across the new Organii Everyday Organics Sun Milk 50 at my local health food store a few months ago and couldn’t resist buying it…I’ve been using it all summer and it has become another favourite of mine, especially when it comes to children, because you know their preciously delicate skin is completely protected from the sun’s harmful UVA AND UVB sun rays. As a friend said to me in the park as I was applying it to my toddler from head to toe: ‘These wholesome organic sun creams leave you child looking like they’re ready to swim the channel’ 🙂
This organic mineral sun cream is vegan (another reason I like it) and fragrance free and it’s very easy to apply because of its fluid consistency – it’s not runny but it’s not a thick cream either. And it works on all skin types, so it’s ideal for the whole family. Its formulation includes extracts of jojoba, olive, sunflower and argan oils to nourish and moisturise the skin while naturally shielding you from the sun. Because of its high protection, it’s ideal for those with fair skin or those who burn quickly too: all in all a wonderfully wholesome Sun Milk you can trust and enjoy during the hottest of summer days.

If you feel that your skin needs a little boost now and again, try adding some serum to your beauty regime as it will help to nourish your skin more deeply, giving your complexion some brightness. For a versatile hydrator Green People have a great new product called Hydrating Firming Serum. It’s a clear, gel-like texture that you can apply directly on your face (I love that it doesn’t feel sticky and that it’s absorbed quickly) or you can mix it into your moisturiser. You can also wear it mixed in with your foundation for great hydration and all-day cover. It contains organic chamomile, seaweed and rose geranium, which give it a beautiful, delicate smell. The main benefits you will find when wearing the serum are its anti-ageing properties, as it helps the skin’s natural collagen protection reducing the appearance of fine wrinkles. It also acts as a toner to firm the skin, and because it’s 96% certified organic you can rest assured that you’re feeding your skin the best ingredients. Use sparingly morning and evening, and apply to the skin with a light tapping motion.
Green People is a great brand that is certified with the organic food federation. It’s a really nice collection that is made without Parabens, Lanolin, ethyl alcohol, artificial perfumes, petrochemicals, phthalates and colorants.
Price £11.95, suitable for vegans and vegetarians.
I came across Dr Organic’s Manuka Honey Rescue Cream
when reading about the fact that it has won quite a few awards and has just been nominated again in the Best New Everyday Facial Skincare Product Mass Category
in the CEW awards, so I thought I would check it out for myself. It’s a thick, rich cream that – as you’ve probably guessed by the name – has Manuka Honey as its main ingredient. Other ingredients it contains (all of which are organically certified) are Aloe Vera, Rose Oil, Cocoa Butter and Sweet Almond Oil. I love the fact that it’s a bit of a multi-tasker as you can use it on your hands, body and face so it’s perfect if you’re travelling. It’s an intensive product that nourishes the driest of skins, providing soothing relief and that lovely nourished and protected feeling. It also smells delicious
Thanks to its great emollient, restorative and soothing action the formula is safe to use on dry damaged skin, sun exposed skin, sensitive and irritated skin, leaving it intensely moisturized, instantly restored and visibly healthier all day long.
One of the downsides of living is London, is that one doesn’t get out in the sun that much. Of course every cloud – in this case literally – has a silver lining and our lack of sun exposure means less sun damage. But if you are feeling pale and don’t really want to get a spray tan or fear those dreaded streaks after a DIY job, this is a great alternative. Melvita ProSun Gradual Self-Tanning Moisturising Gel-Cream is the first organic self-tanning product I have ever come across and it’s so gradual that you don’t see the results straight away – instead, you have to way until the next day while it gradually works its magic. Its main ingredient is Erythrulose, a natural bronzing agent derived from sugar cane, which gives even natural-looking results with no streaks. The gel-cream also contains coconut, safflower and buruti oils and beeswax to moisturise as well as sweet orange water and vanilla flower to cool the skin and lightly scent it.
So maybe living in London (or anywhere else that is mostly cloudy!) isn’t such a bad place after all – knowing you can still safely tan and enjoy that golden healthy glow this Spring…
Melvita ProSun Gradual Self-Tanning Moisturising Gel-Cream is priced at £20. For more information go to www.uk.melvita.com
You may remember my review of the gorgeous Trilogy Rosehip Oil in an earlier entry on this blog. It’s a wonderful product that has become a beauty staple as it’s particularly recommended to rehydrate skin and even its tone. To celebrate the brand’s 10th anniversary, however, a brand new product – which in a sense reworks the original – is just launching in the UK.
The Rosehip Oil Antioxidant + is a certified organic and 100% natural product that combines nature’s most powerful skin restoring and protecting properties in a formulation they have called Rosapene™. To the Rosehip Oil, they have added a carefully selected seed oil blend that delivers intensive nourishment to replenish your skin’s elasticity. It also works as daily antioxidant protection to ensure you have healthier, younger looking skin.
The ingredients in this formula include antioxidants Lycopene from Tomato and Phytosterol from Acai (to help protect from premature ageing caused by environmental free radical damage), nourishing Essential Fatty Acids (omegas 3 and 6) from Cranberry and Rosehip to moisturise and renew, and mineral and vitamin rich Oat extract – which provides a soothing and luxurious feel on the skin.
The texture of this oil, feels more like a serum than an oil, so you can wear it alone or combine it with another product. You will find that it absorbs into your skin instantly and has a very light, sweet smell.
Price £26.50 (30ml) – available at Boots, John Lewis, House of Fraser and Wholefoods Market. For more information go to Trilogyproducts.co.uk
Our in-house manufacturing expertise ensures the finest quality oil with guaranteed minimum 80% essential fatty acid content. Tomato seed oil Cold pressed Tomato seed oil has a minimum 80% lycopene content, one of nature’s most powerful antioxidants, to help protect the skin against oxidative damage and premature ageing. Oat extract Sourced from Finland and hardened against the extreme climate, this oat extract is enriched with the perfect combination of essential nutrients including omegas 3 and 9 and vitamins A and E.
One of my favourite make-up brands is Inika because it’s 100% natural, certified organic and completely free from synthetic chemicals and harmful ingredients. The brand’s CEO, Miranda Bond, developed the range after reading that eliminating make-up and cleaning fluids that contain potentialy harmful chemicals would help cure her endemetriosis and help her fall pregnant – which she did after adopting this lifestyle change. Inika was the answer to women searching for an all-natural cosmetic brand, so the brand has very strong ethics and principles, which are present in every single product in the range.
This trio of products is a real must-have and has been very aptly named ‘Secret Weapon’. It contains a Natural Perfection Concealer, a White Crystal Eyeliner and a Light Reflect Highlighting Creme to create that natural, healthy look with a hint of glamour. I personally love the highlighter as it’s one of these products that you can apply on your cheeks, eye lids, lips…anywhere you want some highlighting! Give a try – it’s wonderful to finally have luxury and glamour in products that not only ‘do the job’ but also stay true to their principles.
“A phenomenal success since its inception in 2006, INIKA’s full natural makeup range is now sold in more than 16 countries around the world.
Miranda looks forward to continuing the INIKA mission of bringing world class natural and organic makeup products to women all over the world.”
