Spritz on your sun screen

laiafarrangravesIt’s finally hot: it’s summer, my favourite time of year, but a season that can be very harmful for your skin if you don’t protect it sufficiently. I always wear factor 50 sun cream on my face, all year round, because it’s exposed – it may sound excessive to some but I truly believe that when it comes to skincare, prevention is key and sun damage can age your skin prematurely. I normally use a lotion, but when I saw this new Invisible Hydrating Mist SPF50 from Vichy, I simply couldn’t resist trying it out. It’s designed for your body, but I’ve also used it on my face and it works well. The obvious advantage using this product has, is that it’s extremely easy to apply, just spray on and Bob’s your uncle. It’s also invisible, meaning that it leaves no streaks or white marks on your body or clothes, so you can wear it with any outfit. It’s designed for all skin types, including sensitive skin, and it’s also unisex – my husband sprays it on before cycling to avoid greasy hands, and I’ve used it on my toddler when, pool in sight, she has no patience to wait for cream to be applied. The formula filters UVA and UVB harmful rays to protect the skin. It’s also enriched with Vichy Thermal Spa Water (soothing, fortifying and regenerating) for maximum hydration – contains no Parabens and is Hypoallergenic. It’s a very clever idea and a great family all-rounder that can keep you all protected from the sun. In short,  think this one is a keeper: easy to use, effective and offering all-round protection. The only drawback is that you can’t carry it in your hand luggage if you’re off on a short sunny break, but then again you’re bound to find some at the airport…

Sun shield

beautyspotblogAs you know, one of the main contributors to premature skin ageing is exposure to the sun, so wearing sun cream or make up with an SPF is an absolute must if you want to look great at every age. But like with everything in life, there’s sun protection and there’s sun protection, which is why I want to tell you about a label which has just launched in the UK. It’s a range of products called Ladival and which is pretty revolutionary in its approach to sun protection because as well as blocking your skin from harmful UVA and UVB rays it also blocks it from Infrared-A light, which effectively translates into having 4 times more sun protection than your average sun cream.

37% of the sun’s rays are damaging to the skin. Current sun screens that you know and buy, only protect against UVA and UVB. That means they only protect you against 7% of those rays. By protecting against Infrared-A as well, Ladival offers protection against four times more of the sun’s damaging rays.

The range includes lotions and sprays at SPFs 15, 30 and 50, as well as a children’s range. The products are free from perfume, colourants, preservatives and emulsifiers and suitable for sensitive skin (including eczema, and sun allergy and prickly heat sufferers). I tried the 15SPF lotion for every day use on my face and loved its ‘barely-there’ texture and the slight sheen it gives the skin. Next time you plan a holiday in the sun add Ladival to your checklist, you won’t regret it!

The Ladival range is available at £19.99 and is available at Boots and leading supermarkets nationwide. For more information go to Ladival.co.uk.

It’s glow time!

Times are changing for the natural beauty industry. Gone are the days when we regarded natural products to be ‘home-made’ and  unsophisticated. Today they’re up there with the best and the most luxe. And one of my favourite brands, Jane Iredale, encapsulates just that: quality and luxury without compromising on ingredients. Their latest addition to the range is the Glow Time full coverage BB cream. It’s water resistant for up to 40 minutes and has an SPF of 25. It’s a real multi-tasker and can be used as a sunscreen, concealer, foundation and moisturiser. It comes in six shades and blends in with your skin tone very easily, and its texture is smooth and packed with colour, so a little goes a long way. It contains Grapefruit Extract to promote luminosity and skin radiance, minimising the appearance of pores and wrinkles, Apple Extract to smoothe and  exfoliate,  Bitter Orange Extract to naturally perfume and condition and Aloe Leaf Juice to calm the skin. But perhaps it’s even more important to take note of what it doesn’t contain: fillers, fragrance, chemical dyes or synthetic preservatives. I love its texture and colour, as it really blends into your complexion. It comes out in October, and I personally can’t wait!

GLOW TIME™ Full Coverage Mineral BB cream will be available from October 2012, RRP £39.95 from selected skincare specialists and beauty salons.

Handy Work

Don’t you just love a good hand cream? I go through phases with mine and at the moment I am enjoying Eve Lom’s Hand cream with SPF 10. It helps protect your hands from the sunshine, and even if you don’t think there’s much sunshine at the moment, you’d be surprised how easily sun damage can occur – and as sunny Spring gets ever closer it’s definitely an investment worth making. Sun damage can age your hands, creating wrinkles and sun spots, which is why this is a particularly  handy product (pardon the pun!). The cream has a lovely luxurious and rich, creamy texture that is very quickly absorbed into the skin and immediately makes your hands feel smooth to the touch. It also has a very light scent that reminded me of almond oil. It contains  key anti-ageing ingredients like Vitamins A and E, as well as gorgeous-smelling natural additions – from jojoba oil to kokum butter. It really is a fabulous treat.
