Brand new Neom

beautyspotlaia

I want to tell you about this brand new line of treatments from Neom, which I absolutely love!
Our hostess, Melissa, greeted me with a smile and a cup of coffee before my Neom treatment, telling me that what I had in store was so much more than a treatment – more of a holistic experience. It has been developed for a long time by a team of experts in various disciplines. I was very much looking forward to it, having been a fan of their quality organic scents and candles for years, and I wasn’t disappointed.

My lovely therapist, Claire, was a trained aromatherapist. She was friendly and informative, very knowledgeable about essences and the properties of each plant used in the composition of the products. She explained what was going to happen at every step of the treatment. First, you smell four different scents and find out which one you’re drawn to instinctively. I doubted at first, but kept going back to a fresh, lemony scent. According to Claire, this is your body guiding you to what you need the most at that moment in time. So I chose an energizing, revitalizing, energy-boosting treatment, which included a short meditation session, a full body scrub and mask,  an Indian head and face massage, and some reflexology. I had relaxed so much at the spa previously that it made sense that my body craved a surge of energy. The scent included Sicilian lemons, fresh basil, mint and mandarin, and it was evocative and not at all overpowering. I kept recognizing individual aromas, much as one hears clearly the various instruments of a large orchestra. It was an all-encompassing scent that enveloped all my senses and took me back to my childhood in the Mediterranean.

The treatment started with a brief meditation and the Neom ritual. Guided by a soothing female voice and gentle music, I followed some simple breathing instructions which immediately relaxed me. Claire sprayed some scented mist around me and later applied the scrub, which was very refreshing. She let it do its magic and removed it, applying a mask afterwards. An incredible Indian head and face massage followed, as well as a gentle foot massage. Then a hot and cold toner was used to remove all the products, leaving me feeling revitalized and full of energy. This was all done very slowly and it felt like I’d rested for hours.

The treatment left me feeling very invigorated, energized, fresh and renewed. I’d arrived the night before feeling frazzled and exhausted, and left with a new spring in my step and filled with hope and inspiration – most definitely more than a treatment. A total body, mind and spirit experience. I found it hard to get to sleep that night, I was so incredibly energized! And for days afterwards, my skin felt fabulously toned and firm, and everyone kept asking me if I’d been away on holiday. I recommend this treatment to everyone – it’s like stepping into a new world of fragrance and well-being, leaving all your cares behind, and going on a long solo journey, from which you emerge like a new, improved version of yourself.

Into the sun

beautyspotblogWe all know that we’re meant to wear sun protection all year round to protect our skin from damaging sun rays, but during the summer months it’s that more important to do so, as the sun is out in full force – even if it’s cloudy. I try to always wear sun cream, but often I find that the products that offer the best protection are thick and white, so hard to blend into one’s skin. So when I came across a brand new product called SPF45 Tinted Moisturiser, which is part of the Marine Skincare from Spa Technologies, I was keen to give it a try. It’s a gorgeous cream that smells clean and refreshing and is instantly absorbed into the skin, providing an even and matt finish. It’s a great daily moisturiser with a hint of colour that you can wear without worrying about adding sun protection, and because it’s so packed-full of nutrients (its main active ingredients are Hyaluronic acid, aloe vera and mineral make-up) you know that you’re also nourishing and feeding your skin. The entire range of serums and creams are, in fact, formulated by blending natural active ingredients into a 70% food-grade seaweed base (seaweed contains magnesium, potassium and phosphorous, essential for collagen production, which maintains the skin’s elasticity), resulting in a nutrient-rich product that provides protection against ageing without relying on chemicals, so you know it’s completely safe to wear. Not only that, but the range is completely vegan so free of any animal products, which is wonderful in itself on so many levels… I love that this luxurious, high-end brand is so ethical and results driven, as often the most effective creams available have very heavily chemically-based formulas. So if you’re conscious of what you consume inside and out (remember that the skin is the largest organ of your body), but still want a product that delivers, this could be the brand for you. You heard it here first!

Spa technologies is:
Hypo-allergenic, contains no Parabens, no sulphates, no sulphides, no MI, no artificial fragrances or colours, no animal product, and is not tested on animals.

The SPF 45 Tinted Moisturiser from Spa Technologies is priced at £25, and £101 for the Restore kitAvailable from Spatechnologiesuk.com  For more information or to see the full range here go to http://www.veganbeautyskincare.co.uk/product-category/skincare

No time to beautify? We’ve got it covered

beautyspotblog1-26 at 15.03.53So you want to look good, and you’re desperate for a manicure or pedicure but there aren’t enough hours in the day –  and you don’t really want to go in your lunch break because you can’t relax…so why not get them to come to you?
I did exactly that a few weeks ago and it was genius. I wanted to catch up with a friend and also get some beauty treatments done, so we called CitySwish and booked them to come to us (killing two birds with one stone so to speak). One of the main benefits they offer, is that it’s all done online: you book your treatment, your time and date of choice and you pay. Done. The other thing that was great about CitySwish, was how flexible our therapist was – as it was two of us, in essence she said we could use up our time fluidly, so we felt very relaxed, which in turn enhanced our experience. We were treated by Francesca, who arrived promptly with all her stuff (from towels to nail varnishes and a massage bed!), and after a short introduction started with the first treatments: a pedicure for me and a manicure for my friend (who had amazing navy nails done!). laiafarrangravesIt was very professional and we were both very happy with the results. Then, as a complete treat, we both had a short massage which I have to say was FANTASTIC. Francesca placed some hot water with essential oils underneath the massage bed below the head before starting, which was a wonderfully relaxing touch and proceeded to do such a good job that I stopped talking 😉 Once she completed all the treatments, she tool all her bits and pieces and left, leaving us feeling blissfully beautified.
I’m sure the experience would’ve been just as enjoyable had I been on my own, but having a shared experience with a girlfriend made it that more fun. You need to live in London’s zones 1-3 for them to come to your house, but if this is the case, check them out. You won’t regret it!

For more information go to Cityswish.com. Their prices are:
Beauty: £45 per hour
Massage: £60 per hour
Massage & beauty: £55 per hour

Editor’s pick: Bio-Oil wonder oil

bautyspotblogThis is a product that smells and feels lovely and that really takes care of any scarring and stretch marks you may have on your skin, and it’s gentle enough to use during pregnancy. It’s one that I use in winter, when my skin has a tendency to dry up and on any burns, scars or scrapes I may get! It has a massive celeb  following which has given it a somewhat cult status, but the bottom line is that it’s a faithful product that will help with specific concerns such as scars, stretch marks, uneven skin and dehydration.

laiafarrangravesbeautyspot

The Bio-Oil unique formulation includes vitamin A and E with Calendula, Lavender, Rosemary and Chamomile oils, and their very own Bio-Oil, PurCellin Oil™ (that somehow create a “dry” oil which is non-greasy) to ensure they’re easily-absorbed into the skin where they can provide targeted treatment.
Bio-Oil has been clinically proven to help with scars, stretch marks,  uneven Skin Tone, Ageing Skin and Dehydrated Skin.

Bio-Oil is preservative-free and is not tested on animals. Available from Boots, Superdrug, Tesco, Asda, Lloyds Pharmacy, Sainsbury’s, Morrisons, Waitrose, Savers, Bodycare, SemiChem, Wilkinsons, Primark, Amazon and independent pharmacies nationwide. 60ml rsp £8.95, 125ml rsp £14.95, 200ml rsp £19.95

Give yourself a Super Boost!

Fancy treating your skin to some extreme hydration? We sent our skin expert Sam Richardson to check out a brand-new facial which she loved –  and is now raving about…

Anesis Salon stands out on the strip called The Pavement in Clapham Common. The exterior is as inviting as their signature SuperBoost Facial delivered by the amazing Theresa – it was pure indulgence.

The salon entry has the feel of a lounge – as I walked in, two locals were sat on the couch with their dog chatting to the owner as if they’d just popped round for coffee to a friend’s house. The warmth was extended by the very courteous staff who prepped me and then introduced me to a woman with truly gifted hands called Theresa.

The treatment began with a Roshehip seed cleanser which was light and creamy. I have sensitive skin, and stay away from heavy lotions, but this wasn’t laiafarrangravesone of them. Warm mitts were gently swirled on my cheeks  and I went into a sense of floating relaxation. Within the blacked-out room including the funky snake skin effect wall paper I was quickly in a state of nirvana, only revived by the Fruit Acid Gel that followed. A tingly exhilaration crept over my face as the effect of this exfoliator kicked in. Think of the infamous Laura Mercier lipgloss, add the kick of a handful of chillies and you’ve got the sensation. This led to a soothing and cooling effect and then the most divine touch from Theresa.

beautyspotShe pressed, wrapped, stimulated and tapped my facial muscles…bliss! Then added a Corrective Oxygen Mask that contained plasma serum and apple stem cell serum. After this, a warm towel with essential oil of lavender was placed to cocoon my face and décollete. The blend of serums was light, yet effective enough to penetrate deeply. This relaxed me so much that I wasn’t sure if I needed to go to my weekly meditation class. But on second thoughts I did… A woman can never take enough care of herself!

I’m feeling my face now – it feels supple and loved. Before the winter kicks in and you visibly need one, treat yourself to a facial –  with Theresa. Then tell your friends or make it your Christmas gift to them. You’ll seriously kick yourself if a facial or a massage from her isn’t on your bucket list!

This, their signature deep cleanse and moisturising facial, includes steam & extractions for all skins types. It’s a fabulous facial that will address skin concerns such as dullness, dryness and congestion utilising the Anesis Skin range of cosmeceutical skincare.

For more information go to Anesis.co.uk. The Anesis Superboost Facial is priced at £65, for a 60 minute treatment.

Editor’s favourite: Pretox Filler

laiafarrangravesbeautyspotI’m not a big fan of plastic surgery or botox, so I’m always interested in finding out what the latest medical advances in the Beauty Industry has to offer as a way of an alternative to such severe measures. I was recently given a great product called Pretox Filler from Medik8. The name is quite medical but the product itself is a great serum/gel in texture that is incredibly hydrating. So if – like me – you have a tendency to dry and dehydrated skin no matter how much water you drink during the day, this is a great option for you. Formulated with liposomes for better delivery what this product does is to deliver a high concentration of  hyaluronic acid to the skin achieving maximum hydration and consequently improving the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. It helps restore the skin’s natural hydro balance, correct skin irregularities and plump out lines as a result of this. It’s not cheap (£52.00 per 30ml) but it does last a long time as you only need a small amount at a time. Give it a go if you’re concerned by fine lines caused by dehydration.  Medik8 products are available in clinics nationwide and at Medik8.com. The Pretox Filler is priced at £52.00 (30ml).

About the brand: Medik8 is dedicated to producing high quality skincare products with the best ingredients at the right strengths, and with a proven track record. The brand has tailored lines for specific skin solutions.

Aloha from Hawaii

Whether you’re on holiday or staying put, summer hair always needs a bit of a boost. To ensure it remains hydrated and nourished, despite the heat and sunshine, I recommend that you use a mask at least once a week, depending on your hair quality. And if your hair has been coloured you’ll want to ensure it doesn’t lose its shine. I tried a great product from Paul Mitchell called Awapuhi Wild Ginger  Keratin Intensive Treatment. It contains a concentrated keratin protein blend to repair and protect the hair as well as providing intense hydration, but its key ingredient is the fragrant juice of the Awapuhi Ginger plant, something that Hawaiian natives have been using to moisturise skin and hair for centuries. Using plants from their solar-panelled Awapuhi Farm in Hawaii, the Paul Mitchell team carefully harvest and process them by hand to preserve their hydrating properties. The result is a soft, creamy product that melts into your hair adding a healthy shine and boosting its texture. It also smells of gorgeous ginger, which has a revitalising effect, so its perfect for your morning shower. I use it once a week at the moment and my hair  (which has been highlighted recently) feels very soft and silky. It’s definitely worth a try, especially if you’re a ginger fan!

Paul Mitchell’s Keratin Intensive Treatment is available at awapuhi.paulmitchell.com priced at £23.95 150ml.
